When I create an original furniture design, I start with the function of the piece and think about designs that work with the intended use. The design is often shaped by a particularly beautiful grain structure or color of the wood I will use in the piece. I love curves and frequently use steam bent or laminated curved members in my work.
I will sometimes make careful reproductions of work that I admire or that a client wishes recreated. Careful study is given to the original material used and original construction techniques. I do not believe in shortcuts that are substandard structurally, but I will improve construction techniques on a reproduction if the original developed problems during use over time.
