This table started out as a beautiful board of Curly white oak. Curly oak is rather uncommon and can have a spectacular grain. I knew it would make a lovely table top so I began designing the legs. First I played with oak legs in an Arts and Crafts style but realized that I wanted to showcase the top. This meant that the legs needed to be both neutral and contrasting. That led to the simple black legs influenced by oriental design.
